Hey guys!
So, I was at a BBQ for my friends fathers birthday (both my friend and his father happen to be air traffic controllers), and they were all chatting with some other people (who also are ATCs). Some of the stories I heard make me afraid to ever get on a plane again!
One story: A pilot in a Cessna misheard the correct runway for takeoff and took off right in front of a fighter jet who was coming up fast right behind him.
Another: The tower told the pilot "taxi to runway ## and hold", and the pilot who barely speaks any English replies with "copy, cleared for takeoff"!
And apparently, at small airport without big radar, small planes with student pilots tend to get lost in the airspace and cannot find the airport and the tower cannot find the small plane
last words of advice I got from the ATCs that night - NEVER fly on new years day, because all the ATCs in the Tower are badly hungover or still drunk from the party the night before!

Good to know...I will note that
That all sounds like funny Stories...but I´ve seen a TV report a few weeks ago where it says the ATC´s are much overworked and stressed and not really able to avoid making mistakes....

Iranian Air Defense Radar: "Unknown aircraft at (location unknown), you are in Iranian airspace. Identify yourself."
Aircraft: "This is a United States aircraft. I am in Iraqi airspace."
Iranian Air Defense Radar: "You are in Iranian airspace. If you do not depart our airspace we will launch interceptor aircraft!"
Aircraft: "This is a United States Marine Corps F/A-18 Hornet. Send 'em up, I'll wait!"
Iranian Air Defense Radar: (no response . total silence)
